BBC Look North - York Hospital invests in OTEX

York Hospital has become the first in the NHS to invest in a revolutionary cleaning system that helps reduce the environmental reservoir of resistant organisms such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile.

Outside York Hosptial

York Hospital has installed the OTEX laundry system for micro fibre cloths and mops as part of a new innovation plan developed in preparation for Domestic Services going back in-house after being contracted out for 14 years.

The key to OTEX is ozone, a natural disinfectant which acts 3,200 times faster than chlorine bleach and destroys even spore forming bacteria such as Clostridrium difficile (C.diff) and other dangerous bacteria and viruses on all wash cycles.

The BBC footage below shows an interview with Alison Hughes, Director of Planning at York Hospital on the use of OTEX as part of the hospital's infection control regime.
